Tarpon Lodge
The perfect location for a relaxing vacation
By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
Imagine yourself walking barefoot across a vibrant green lawn, sitting down for a rest at a waterside bench and staring off across the rolling waves to the islands in the distance. If this is your idea of the perfect vacation, then you will love the Tarpon Lodge & Restaurant on Pine Island in Pineland, Florida.
Pine Island is a rare find in modern Florida. The 17 mile long island has somehow retained its old-Florida look and feel even though it is just minutes away from touristy destinations and the bustle of Fort Myers. It is also a boater’s paradise.
The Tarpon Lodge & Restaurant fits in perfectly on Pine Island. They even call it “a piece of old Florida frozen in time.”
The original Tarpon Lodge building dates back to 1926. This beautifully preserved structure features eight guest rooms. Most of the rooms have the original hardwood floors. Both the upstairs and downstairs rooms offer convenient access to the restaurant and lounge.
Guests who stay in the Cottage will enjoy a kitchenette with a four-top dinette, living space with a loveseat and a sofa, one bathroom, one King bed in the bedroom and a small deck.
For those who desire a little more room, the restored 1926 Boathouse offers master bedroom with a king bed, a second bedroom with two queen beds, a bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub/shower combo, a standing kitchenette area with a full-size refrigerator with ice-maker, a bar sink, a microwave, a coffee maker and a water view from the front porch.
If you desire a modern feel, the Island House is a stilt building with a central hallway dividing the six water view rooms and the six non-water view rooms. Bed choices include one King water view, one Queen water view, two Queens non-water view, one Queen non-water view, two Twins non-water view; or three Twins non-water view. The water view rooms in the Island House all have a small balcony.
Amenities include:
* A complimentary, self-serve Continental Breakfast
* Cable TV
* Wireless Internet Access
* Outdoor Pool
* Dockage ($25 per night per boat plus taxes)
* 4 Star Restaurant [lunch & dinner]
* Full service Lounge on-site with Live Music
* Fishing guide, water taxi & sailing trip referrals
The Tarpon Lodge Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. We enjoyed their Cuban Sandwiches for lunch. They were huge, delicious and reasonably priced.
If you are a nature lover or birder, Pine Island has more than eighteen active American Bald Eagle nesting sites.
Pine Island also offers fishing, boating, birding, a golf course, a local museum, nature trails, and art galleries.
