1400 antique dealers and collectors in Mount Dora, FL

Mount Dora is one of central Florida’s most charming cities. It offers something for everyone. Lovers of crafts, fine dining, music festivals, jewelry shops, bars and historic hotels and homes will find walking and browsing in Mount Dora a delight. Mount Dora has several antique malls and stores that lovers of the old and unusual will certainly enjoy but the highlight of it all is Renninger’s Flea Market and Antique Center.
I have attended four Renninger's events. I have been to 1) the Extravaganza in Kutztown, PA, 2) the Antique Center in Adamstown, PA countless times for antiques and collectibles, 3) the Extravaganza in Mount Dora, FL several times and 4) the Renninger's Flea Market in Melbourne, FL.
Anyone who loves antiques and collectables as I do knows that Renninger's events are advantageous because they offer an almost unsurpassed variety of merchandise. There is an enormous, unbeatable opportunity for a collector to choose from among countless items of interest, experience many different price ranges, stay in tune with market prices and trends, see old friends, and make new acquaintances.
The Extravaganzas take place three times each year but the Antique Centers are open all year round, every weekend. The Mount Dora Extravaganza is the only such event in Florida.
Renninger’s in Mount Dora is celebrating its 30th anniversary in this location, on Route 441, right off Route 46. Every Saturday and Sunday, the huge Farmer and Flea Market with over 700 vendors offers everything from homemade ice cream to tools to T-shirts to plants to perfume.
The Indoor Antique Center alone has 200 air conditioned booths offering porcelain, pottery, silver, books, vintage watches, paintings and jewelry of every description.
Renninger’s, however, is most famous for the three Antique Extravaganza weekend shows that take place in November, January and February of every year. They are the largest Antique Extravaganzas in the entire Southeast.
On a sprawling 117 acre field, over 1,000 dealers from many states and several foreign countries offer a veritable feast for collectors, photographers and people watchers.
You have a good chance of seeing anything and everything for sale. Just a small sampling of what we observed included: antique advertising (tins, signs etc), sports memorabilia, furniture, old records and phonographs, vintage radios, old bottles, tramp art, antique games and toys, dolls, glassware of every description, architectural relics, paintings and vintage pottery.
Prepare for the unusual! On this outing, we saw genuine Buddha statues, an old Post Office display, giant amusement park lettering, real coffins and several 18th and 19th century rifles.
A tip for the novice buyer: never accept the first price quoted. Haggling is expected and encouraged! I found a 19th century medical tin for “tooth soap” in great condition. The asking price was $10.00, but I bargained the dealer down 30% to $7.00!
You won’t go hungry, either. A food court and food truck vendors will satisfy your taste for anything including Mexican, American, Chinese, Greek and Japanese food with gourmet coffee, tempting desserts and even more exotic fare to choose from.
Friday is the prime day for shopping because dealers first set up and open at 8 a.m. to the general public. You can then have first pick of their wares. Admission is $10.00 for Friday, $8.00 for Saturday or Sunday and $15.00 for all three days with plenty of free parking. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as you will do plenty of walking!
The Renninger’s Antique Center also hosts Antique Radio Meets, Civil War Re-enactments, Easter Egg Hunts, Garden shows, Fall pumpkin picking, Indian Pow-wows and Renaissance demonstrations.
The next two extravaganzas will take place January 16 to 18, 2015 and February 20 to 22, 2015.

Hungry for more antiqueing? Even more antiquing opportunities await at Renninger’s in Adamstown and Kutztown, PA as well as the huge flea market they run in Melbourne, Florida on US 95, just off exit 183.
