Just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio is one of the world’s premier amusement parks. Kings Island has been thrilling visitors of all ages and setting world records for almost fifty years. The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch both filmed episodes there.
We asked Kings Island Director of Communications Chad Showalter to tell us more about this world-class vacation destination.
How would you describe Kings Island in one sentence?
Kings Island is a place for families craving special experiences together from family-themed attractions to some of the best, recording-setting coasters in the world, Kings Island has something for everyone.
What can you tell us about the history of Kings Island?
Kings Island is a 364-acre (147 ha) amusement park located 24 miles (39 km) northeast of Cincinnati in Mason, Ohio. Owned and operated by Cedar Fair, the park first opened in 1972 by the Taft Broadcasting Company.
The park features over 100 attractions including fifteen roller coasters and a 33-acre (13 ha) water park. The park’s icon is a 1/3 scale replica of Paris’ Eiffel Tower.
Throughout the park’s history, Kings Island has appeared in popular sitcoms and received widespread recognition for its record-breaking attractions and events. One of the park's most well-known attractions, The Racer, is often credited with reviving worldwide interest in roller coasters during the 1970s. Others, such as The Beast and Banshee, have set several world records, some of which are still standing.
Kings Island is divided into themed sections and operates seasonally from early Spring through the Fall, partially reopening for Winterfest during the holiday season.
Kings Island has won Golden Ticket Awards from Amusement Today for having the "Best Kids' Area" in the world for seventeen consecutive years (2001–2017) as well as “Best New Ride” in 2017 for Mystic Timbers.

How would you describe the dining options at Kings Island?
There are some Kings Island guests who are more focused on what they’re going to eat during their visit, than what ride they are going to ride first. I always recommend that guests make sure they grab one of our famous blue ice cream cones in Planet Snoopy.
New this year, the fast-casual restaurant, Coney Bar B Que, features barbecue from around the country. Whether you’re a fan of Carolina barbecue, or all the way down in Texas, Coney Bar B Que has something you’ll love.
Visitors to Cincinnati also can sample all the hometown favorites, including LaRosa’s Pizza, Skyline Chili and Graeter’s Ice Cream.
Why is the Kings Island such a popular destination?
Kings Island has the charms of a traditional amusement park, combined with the cutting-edge thrill rides any adventure seeker is looking for in an amusement park visit.
Conclusion
The best deals on Kings Island general admission tickets is available online, or Kroger stores. The ordering process online is quick and easy. After making your purchase, simply download and print your tickets.
Kings Island offers a discount for seniors (age 62 and older) and juniors (less than 48 inches) on both general admission tickets and Platinum season passes. Guests under the age of 3 do not require an admission ticket.
Traveling with children? Check out the Parent Swap Program. Here's how it works: one parent waits in line to ride a thrill ride or other height-restricted attraction. After riding, they give their Parent Swap pass to the ride operator and the other parent/guardian, who has been taking care of the little ones, can walk up the exit or alternate access lane to get right on the ride. To participate in Parent Swap, parents need to obtain a slip to authorize them for the program at Guest Services located at the front gate.
Kings Island is located at 6300 Kings Island Drive, Kings Island, OH 45034.
