Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

New Mexico, USA

by Richard Haines

Who doesn't love watching hot air balloons float lazily across the blue sky or light up the night sky?

For over four decades, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta has been a world-renowned attraction and the premier ballooning event destination for all ages.

Each first week in October "the beautiful, magical moving picture show of hot air balloons sailing silently through the crisp fall air" delights thousands of spectators.

Guests from all over the world come to Albuquerque to celebrate ballooning.

Literally hundreds of balloons will be taking flight from Balloon Fiesta Park this year, October 2 through 10, 2010.

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta began in 1972 with just 13 balloons launching from a shopping mall parking lot. It has now grown to the largest ballooning event on earth, the most photographed event on earth, and the largest annual international event held in the United States with 500 balloons launching from a custom-designed, 365-acre Balloon Fiesta Park!
