Abaco Beach Resort and Baer Air
Abaco Beach Resort and Baer Air
Melbourne, FL to Bahamas
by Steven Skelley & Thomas Routzong
Are you in the mood for a Bahamas vacation but don't want to do the same-old, same-old touristy things everyone does on the bigger islands? Abaco Beach Resort and Baer Air have created several getaway packages that are uniquely sensational.
Abaco is a group of northern Bahamian Islands that were originally settled just after the American Revolutionary War by about 400 New Yorkers according to Bahamas.com. This small chain of islands (called cays) features several marinas, small resort hotels, waterfront restaurants and a wide variety of shops, stores and some of the most beautiful beaches in the Bahamas. Because of its' northeast American heritage, a lot of the architecture resembles New England!
Abaco Beach Resort at Boat Harbour is less than 165 miles off the coast of Florida and has been renowned as the "Hub of the Abacos" since 1955. With pink sand beaches, weathered bluffs, mangrove creeks, bonefish flats, pristine offshore cays, barrier islands and a sheltered waterway known as the Sea of Abaco, this is one of the world's finest cruising and fishing grounds. The Abaco Beach Resort has 72 oceanfront rooms, suites, cottages, and residences to celebrate what they call the "true out island spirit." Room categories include Standard, Superior, Deluxe and Handicapped Accessible. Their marina has 198 slips and 24 hour security.
Michael J. Choiniere, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Abaco Beach Resort at Boat Harbour said, "I believe we do offer a destination that is safe, comfortable, laid back and full of charm and history that is attractive. We have over 100 seniors who are members of the Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club that cruise down to us from all over the United States beginning in November and stay through March/April every year. They enjoy our friendly, family atmosphere, great food and beverage and our seven day a week entertainment schedule. There is no reason why all of that would not appeal to an LGBT audience as well."
Baer Air operates out of the Melbourne International Airport in Melbourne, Florida on the Space Coast. Once you board your private plane, one of Baer Air's experienced pilots will fly you to Marsh Harbour, Bahamas in about ninety minutes. We couldn't believe how smooth the flight was. The pilot even let one of us ride in the copilot's seat!
Current packages are:
Four-night, five-day Adventure Package - $834 per person / double occupancy.
Three day, four night Adventure Package - $680 per person / double occupancy.
